It is believed that the group was started around the 1920’s as the 16TH Ormskirk Scout Group.
Local Government by laws created the Merseyside County border and the Group became 5th Sefton East Lyiate, Merseyside.

The Scout Group is currently in its third Head Quarters and these have always has been located at the back of Lydiate Parish Hall. In 1975 the first concrete and brick Head Quarters was opened, this provided the foundations for the present Head Quarters. The present Head Quarters was partly funded by a National Lottery Grant.

In 1977 the Group received a telegram from the Queen thanking them for congratulating her on her Silver Jubilee. In the 1970’s a large number of the group leaders where ex-forces.

The Group maintains and has always had a good link with St. Thomas’ Church Lydiate. The Group attends Church Parades at St. Thomas’ Church, the second Sunday of each month as part of the Uniformed Organisations. The Band plays at the Church Parades.

The Group consists of 6 sections; Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Network and The Band. The Neckerchief is black with yellow borders.
